Le travail de SHABAKA transcende les notions conventionnelles de genre et s’inspire d’une vaste palette d’influences culturelles. S’il est indéniablement une voix pionnière dans la renaissance du jazz britannique, son champ d’action est bien plus large : il a également interprété des concertos classiques avec des orchestres de renommée mondiale, dirigé plusieurs groupes extrêmement influents (Sons of Kemet, The Comet is Coming, SHABAKA and The Ancestors) et a récemment sorti un album solo salué par la critique : Afrikan Culture, une œuvre d’une beauté et d’une urgence exceptionnelles, axée sur l’instrument d’Asie orientale, le Shakuhachi, dont SHABAKA est l’un des principaux adeptes.

SHABAKA’s work transcends conventional notions of genre and draws from a vast pallet of cultural influences. Whilst he’s undeniably a pioneering voice in the renaissance of British Jazz, his remit is much broader: he has also performed classical concertos with world-leading orchestras; led several hugely influential bands (Sons of Kemet, The Comet is Coming, SHABAKA and The Ancestors) and has recently released a critically lauded solo album; Afrikan Culture, a work of exceptional beauty and urgency, focussed around the eastern Asian instrument, the Shakuhachi, of which SHABAKA is a major exponent.
