Okonski est le trio de piano éponyme dirigé par le pianiste Steve Okonski, basé à Asheville, en Caroline du Nord, avec Michael Isvara Montgomery à la contrebasse et Aaron Frazer à la batterie. Enregistrant souvent des performances entièrement improvisées directement sur bande, la musique du trio a été qualifiée de méditative, introspective et éthérée.

Les compositions d’Okonski mettent l’accent sur l’espace et la mélodie, associant des lignes de piano expressives à un rythme et une texture subtils. Collaborateur de longue date de Durand Jones & The Indications, il a également travaillé avec Say She She, BJ the Chicago Kid et Scott McMicken, entre autres. Les trois albums d’Okonski, dont Entrance Music (2025), sont désormais disponibles chez Colemine Records.

Okonski is the eponymous piano trio led by Asheville, North Carolina–based pianist Steve Okonski, featuring Michael Isvara Montgomery on upright bass and Aaron Frazer on drums. Often recording fully improvised performances directly to tape, the trio’s music has been described as meditative, introspective, and ethereal.

Okonski’s compositions emphasize space and melody, pairing expressive piano lines with subtle rhythm and texture. A longtime collaborator with Durand Jones & The Indications, he has also worked with Say She She, BJ the Chicago Kid, and Scott McMicken, among others.All three Okonski releases, including 2025’s Entrance Music are out now on Colemine Records.
